COCKROACH PRESENTATION IS NECESSARY FOR PROTECTING HEALTH
Cockroaches have a reputation for being a pest that is often invasive and can be very destructive. Cockroaches are not something people like to have in their homes. They can also be unsanitary and can signal contamination. According to WHO, they are considered "unhygienic in human settlements." Here's how you can prevent them from becoming a problem.
Are Cockroaches Dangerous?
Cockroaches are a potential threat to your home as well as your family's health. Cockroaches may carry pathogens, spread diseases, or trigger other health problems. According to the National Pest Management Association cockroaches are found in 78 percent to 98 percent of urban homes. Cockroaches love temperatures above 70 degrees. That's why they're so common in the American South.
Food Contamination & Food Poisoning
Roaches can be carriers of up to 33 kinds of harmful bacteria. Their tendency to crawl through garbage, feces, and dead animal remains to access food sources means that they can carry a variety of pathogens. These pathogens can cause disease in the food they contaminate. E. coli bacteria, salmonella, streptococcus, and staphylococcus are just a few examples of the major pathogens they carry. These bacteria can cause food poisoning and other gastrointestinal disorders if they are eaten. Diarrhea (sometimes with blood), stomach pain and cramping, and vomiting are all symptoms of digestive system infection. This can happen for long periods that can last several days.
Allergies
Cockroaches have always been associated with allergic reactions. Their saliva and shed exoskeletons as well their droppings and other waste can all trigger allergic reactions. When they come in direct contact with the skin, Cockroaches can trigger skin reactions such as rashes. They don't bite but their legs spines can scratch the skin surface, leaving bacteria that can lead to an allergic reaction.
Even though cockroaches won't cause asthma or trigger symptoms, the allergens they produce and deposit can make asthma worse. If their waste is left in the house, it can cause severe asthmatic symptoms.
Other Cockroach Diseases
Cockroaches have been shown to be carriers of many other diseases.
- Dysentery. is a severe form of intestinal infection that causes bloody diarrhea, fever, cramps, and sometimes even death.
- Typhoid Fibrosis: a condition that is caused by Salmonella contamination. Typhoid symptoms can include high fever, stomach cramps, constipation, diarrhea, and headaches.
